Another Victory for United and a 6 Point Lead

Solskjaer Goal
Manchester United extended their lead over rivals Chelsea into 6 points as they defeated an optimistic Reading team. At half time the score read 1-1 after Ole Gunner Solskjaer and Sonko scored for Man Utd and Reading respectively. But in the second half Old Trafford saw the different face of Manchester United. They were going for the jugular in search of the win. Ronaldo scored twice, one from a rebound from a Solskjaer effort and another one a from an intelligent and tactical position and excellent placement. Readings were in deep worry as Sam Sodje was sent off for a second yellow card. Sodje played hardly 15 minutes in the pitch after the substitution. But the 10 men Reading then took control and Liroy Lita scored a brilliant goal through the legs of Van der Sar, making mockery of the defener Silvester.

The win means that Manchester United can indeed relax a bit and don't need to worry about Chelsea at their back. They are now 6 point below and Mourinho is not a confident looking man these days. Red Devils are indeed providing the crowd something to cheer for.

Draw Time for Chelsea

Yet another draw was conceded by Chelsea on the second last day of 2006. Fulham came to Stamford Bridge to entertain a full capacity crowd in the snowy evening, and indeed they provided entertainment. The game ended 2-2 at the final whistle with a clearly disappointed Mourinho thinking what went wrong here.

On 16th minute the defensive errors of Chelsea were shown to the world by Moritz Volz as his strike went past the stunted Chelsea goalkeeper, Hilario. Just before halftime Lampard hit a powerful shot, which was deflected off the Fulham defender into the net. Chelsea went to the break with score levelled and came back with a surge to win. The one and only Drogba delivered yet another quality header to take Chelese into the lead. But the surprise was waiting for the last minutes. Carlos Bocanegra made full use of chelsea errors at the back and shot a beautiful strike into the net to get the late equalizer.

Man United Flying High

Manchester United took complete advantage of the point loss by Chelsea by defeating Wigan Athletic at home. The 'Red Devils' are now 5 points clear of the 'Blues' in the title chase. Chelsea was earlier held to a 2-2 draw by newcomers Reading team at Stamford Bridge, courtesy to an own goal from Essien.

Manchester United was somewhat held for a 0-0 draw till halftime by the athletic Wigan team. But Fergusen knew what to do. He introduced Christiano Ronaldo early in the second half and it immediately paid off. The portugese wonder boy found yet another wonder goal, but this time using his head. Four minutes later he converted a penalty into his second goal. Goalkeeper Kirkland saved the first weak attempt by Ronaldo, but the rebounded ball reached Ronaldo and he didn't miss the second attempt. Ole Gunner Solskjaer scored the third goal, with great help from Wayne Rooney, as he headed the goal into the path of Solskjaer. The Wigan team tried in vain to get back into the game, but it was too late. Their effort paid off in the form of a consolation penalty kick and a goal. The final score read 3-1.

Chelsea lost two vital points against Reading

Chelsea went into the game with such overconfidence of overhauling the minnows in EPL, the Reading, but soon realized that they are no minnows anymore. Mourinho will be furious after the match as they lost two vital points in the title chase. Later today, Manchester United will meet Wigan Athletic at the Old Trafford.

Didier Drogba scored from a Lampard corner kick on the 38th minute to give the lead to Chelsea. Fifteen minutes into the second half, Reading levelled with a headed goal from Liroy Lita. Drogba header, 18 minutes from time, gave the lead back to the Chelsea. But every calculation of Mourihno went wrong when on the 85th minute, disaster struck. Ashly cole tried to clear a free ball and he did it into the chest of advancing Essien. The ball bounced off the chest and into the net. Goalkeeper Hilario dived to the left to rescue, but was too. Reading were level and that was how it ended.

Chelsea Did The Magic

Arjen Robben scored a late injury time goal to get the win out of a draw bound match against Wigan Athletic. The win is such a relief for Mourinho, because the club now stays close to Manchester United for the title chance. There are only two points separating the teams now. This years championship is the hottest ever in the last few years.

Chelsea were in control in the first half with goals from Frank Lampard and Soloman Kalou. But Emil Heskey scored two goals in the second half to get Wigan close to getting a draw from this highly contested opponents. But all was in vain as Robben stealed victory from them.

The win from both Man Utd and Chelsea also witnessed the beginning of some word war between the two managers. Sir Alex Fergusen teased Mourinho about his commitments about being on top before Christmas. Mourinho's reply was equally amusing as he clearly said, he haven't said that.
The championship fight is indeed going to give some spectacles. Personally I want Man Utd to win this season. They have such talent in that team. But I doubt whether they have the mental strength of Chelsea. That can be the difference between the two teams this season.

Manchester United Rules

I loved watching Man Utd play. It was another thrilling game against Aston Villa yesterday. The Aston Villa players, especially McCan, tried their best to outplay United, and they succeeded in the first half. But things were entirely different in the second half. The Christiano Ronaldo run into the centre of the box was absolutely brilliant. This boy can dance with the football in between his legs. He tried his shot once, but was blocked by Cahill. the rebounded ball reached Christiano again, who didn't missed the second chance. Then came the wonder strike from Paul Scholes. He had been more or less off colour these days. But he proved that he still have the power. The goal was awesome, Scholes smashing the ball from 30 meters into the top of the net. Aston Villa tried hard to get the deficit back, but never succeeded. The over committed attack only made them weak. Ronaldo scored again with an easy pass from Rooney. the win was authentic and now Manchester United leads Chelsea by 3 points.
